Eli Lilly
- Analyste Micro-info., puis Responsable Réseaux Locaux - LAN
neuilly sur seine
1990 - 1994
As I had written a book on the first databases on micro-computers, I was hired to convert a system from mainframe to client-server technology using the first windows clients (GEM,then Windows 3.1, 3.11 workgroup).
I also supervised the massive micro-computers introduction & rollout to assistants for word processing, then financial dpt, then salesforce, etc.
The last 2 years I became the LAN expert & supervisor, with up to 12 servers (Microsoft LAN Manager, IBM OS/2 also...), and was amongst the first in France to install a TCP/IP network on Microsoft software (thanks to 1000$ TCP/IP cards from Ungermann-Bass with incredibly large 32Kb of RAM...), also supervising the network with concentrators & specific hardware monitoring system to track & solve issues.
The job where I learned in reality that IT marketing is most often overselling...

Servier Italia
- VSNE: Analyste IT & support force de ventes
Suresnes
1988 - 1990
VSNE = Military Civil Service for a French Company abroad.
This was the beginning of micro-computers, I had to work with IBM & BULL mini-computers, but mostly introducing micro-computers in the enterprise, and I was pioneering Sales Force Automation tools.
I was also doing a a lot of congresses around Italy showing with Harvard Graphics results of key Clinical Trials with then new & exciting technologies.
It was a great opportunity for me to learn and speak Italian 24 hours per day as I was also bachelor. Had to travel all around the country with all the departements of the company; from financial director going to Milan, to the scientific head going to Sicily to loan a micro-computer for clinical research to a hospital (and I had to do the training and follow-up). Very intensive work, but were I saw "hands-on" that micro-computers were real business tools and that my career choice was right !
